The big hat is the big buzz at New York’s Fall fashion Week this year.  Tuesday, Marc Jacobs ’ Valentines Day runway show set them all talking about the huge hats, lavish use of fur, and a look that is a cross between Victorian valentine and urban grunge. It’s a whimsical combination of Captian Hook and Anna Karenina and it totally works.

Scottish designer, James Falkner, brought new meaning to the expression ” fashion roadkill” last spring by exhibiting 36 fur and feather hats that were literally made from roadkill.  Falkner, a student at Edinburgh’s Telford College, got the idea after finding a dead bird in the middle of the road.

Upmarket wig and hat designer, Charlie Le Mindu, created quite a stir recently at London Fashion Week by concentrating on big hats and no clothes.  That’s right. Charlie sent his models down the runway wearing nothing but shoes, hats and a pouty face.  Now I am a hat fan, but I really found this one a bit over the top.

Johnny Weir and His Kentucky Derby Hat

The Kentucky Derby is over. The race has been run. The julips have been drunk and the hats have been worn. This one, shading the head  of three time US men’s figure skating champion and Sundance Channel celeb, Johnny Weir, caught my eye.  I am loving Johnny’s good-natured, up-front, androgynous style, and the hat is just fabulous.
