It Had Not Been Planned

Fixed,
fathomed,
fathered -
to have been so embraced.
Surrogates self-delegated
released
and moments encountered reprieved.
A mother's cadenced staccato appeal.
A baby turns away.
The rest is shadows, twitches,
no neonatal  remains
or tittle tattle refuge
deferential  to self;
a refusal of heaps,
ditto the tremulous mud-clogged soles
soft-shuffling towards nowhere.
