LOST EARMUFFS

Huddled together for warmth
the blue earmuffs languish
on the pavement.
Frost feathers each tuft
of fake fur bristling
to ward off cold permeation
like the cat’s pelt
all fluffed out as she
runs into the house
before the sun rises.
