The Vintage Poppy
Ah the poppy. A vintage dream. So beautiful. So dangerous. I’ve long had a love afair with poppies, been enthralled with vintage illustrations, wallpapers, and stained glasses. There is something about their color that makes my insides feel at home.
Jerilee Wei recently wrote a piece about Poppies which inspired me to see what Poppy flower inspirations I could find online. I came up with a few favourites. Apparently I’m not the only one enthralled with the beautiful Poppy. In fact there are a few vintage shops with Poppy in their name. This was a wonderful thing to see. Makes one feel like she is not alone in this world, that Poppies seem to call others home as well.

Perfect Poppy Hairpins by Foundling: new things made from old things, on Etsy. These were made in 2008. Perhaps if I asked nicely, Foundling would make some for me now? I hope so, because I could totally see myself in them. What could be more lovely than a simple and delicate pair of vintage poppy earrings. These had at one time been for sale on Etsy as well, though are unfortunatly no longer available, sigh. Lucky gal that gets to wear these are her lobes.
As of the time of this article’s publication, one can purchase this gorgeous 1.25 inch locket from Locket 2 You. “Poppies will make them sleep”, is the catch phrase for this enchanting antique print Poppy Pod locket, shown in sea grass in their Woodland collection
This lovely vintage postcard illustrated with Poppies was sold on e-bay in 2008. It does seem this year was a popular year for the rejuvenation of the Poppy.

Jack Neubauer makes painting poppies look like a most natural and simple thing to do. He apparently also likes opera (if you don’t I would suggest clicking on the mute button, though I have to say, personally, his choice was a rather nice one). Growing up with an artist as a mother, I know the work that went into this, and the amount of time that went by in between scenes. A fine job he did indeed.
One of my favourite singers on YouTube, Koko Kaina, uploaded an original song in September of 2007, which she sings and plays acoustic to, entitled Poppy. She’s made a fantastic re-make for all to enjoy.
