Emily is a retired English teacher, doing private tutoring. She has been writing her whole life, when the mood strikes or she feels something strongly, often in reaction to the natural world. Emily has been told she is a “naturalist” poet, but in fact she is self-taught. The story her poem relates actually happened at a bookstore cafe, at a very small “poetry reading” which absolutely nobody was listening to. Yet out of it came this poem.
