memoire blogging

Memoir blogging is fairly easy to do.  Everyone can.  After all, a memoir is one’s life story, in a nutshell.  According to the free online dictionary, some of the definitions of memoir (from the French memoire) are

mem·oir(mmwär, -wôr)

n.

1.

An account of the personal experiences of an author.

2.

An autobiography. Often used in the plural.

3.

A biography or biographical sketch.

4.

A report, especially on a scientific or scholarly topic.

5.

memoirs

The report of the proceedings of a learned society.

Most blogging is in fact memoir blogging of one sort or another.  I like the term myself and feel that it makes sense.  Bits and pieces of our days.  Favorite photos.  Our thoughts.  Our feelings.  Peeks into our lingerie drawers, so to speak - sometimes for real.

Memoir blogging is a great way to practice ones writing.  With memoir writing you are writing about things you are familiar with, passionate about, and that sort of thing.  You are able to go into detail about something in your own words.  In turn you are able to then write something unique and interesting.  You are also getting to know yourself, bringing yourself out on a page, and finding your voice.  Writing with your own voice is important, and not as easy as one may think.  Write enough, however, and you will realize you have one, how to manipulate it, and how to manipulate your pieces and subject matter in your own way.

Not sure where to start?  Life too big?  Life not exciting enough?

It is exciting enough.  All of us have parts of our lives or simple memories that can be universally related to in one way or another.

Try to write how you talk.  Like you’re having a onesided conversation.  Like you’re telling a story.  Let that conversation take you wherever it will, sidetrips, whatever.  No one is going to interrupt.  You’ve got the stage.

The following post “A Little Girl’s Fashion Faux Pas” was one of the first blog posts I wrote at Frieda Babbley on Blogspot about a year ago.  It’s a memoir post.  A memory that was jogged by another post belonging to someone else.  Memories, like  dreams, make for great writing opportunities and subjects.
