Niche blogging
At times there is a niche that people create or adhere to in their blogs. What is a niche? For those of you who may be a bit confused about this, a niche is not as fancy as it sounds. A niche is simply a series following a specific category of thoughts and information. When you go to pages that are of a particular niche, you have a pretty good idea of what those pages will be about. When readers are looking for a particular type of information, they know they can find it there.
For example, here at Eye On Life (shameless plug) we have quite a few niches, and I suspect more to come. We have poetry pages, book and movie reviews, politics, paranormal, astro logics, moms, writing, etc.
Many people favor niche blogs and sites. They are considered to be a bit more knowledgeable about the topic they are writing about. Often times they are. Sometimes, they are not. It is up to the reader to decide.
Be careful though. If you are planning on having one of your own,
- be sure you have a plan.
- Fine tune.
- Do your research - how many others are there writing about what you’re writing about.
- Find a way to stand out that makes sense.
- Cross reference - make sure you’re info is correct, incorrect info is the first step to mistrusting a site and you could be blackballed without knowing what hit you.
- Don’t make your niche too broad, and if it is or has to be, make it easily for people to find articles or posts via search, whether it be a category search, keyword search, or content search.
- Select post and article titles carefully, making sure that each post or article stands out from the others. If your niche is, say, about umbrellas, don’t title all of them “Umbrella”; instead find a way to incorporate a type or color or year or other such specific point into the title. This will offer less confusion and will prompt the reader who is just passing through to see that you have an array of umbrella topics that may interest them, and that by chance you may have just what they are looking for.
