Kate’s earliest memory of poetry being in her thoughts is as a young girl: Child’s Garden of Verses. At around age 10 she started writing poetry, her strongest influence e. e. cummings. Later she was introduced to Ferlinghetti, Baudelaire, and Bukowski — all of whom have informed her writing. She has never taken a poetry class, but writes purely from what she feels and rarely edits. The poems are always a response to something overheard or to someone she has encountered along the way.
Katharine lives in Chicago with her family and their assorted menagerie. She is also co-founder and managing director of a small woman-owned environmental consulting group, EKOsystems Services LLP.
She has a background in nonprofit arts and media management and attended Columbia College in Chicago. She has written everything from marketing copy to theatre playbills and has been a contributor to the Illinois Entertainer Newspaper. Eye on Life Magazine is the first to publish her poetry.
If you live near Omaha, Nebraska, Katharine’s poetry will be read at the upcoming Lit Undressed: The Spirit of the Female Beats, 3/31/2011, at RNG Gallery, Omaha, NE. Proceeds benefit VIDA: Women in the Literary Arts.
