Love, Desire, Fantasy, Ephiphany ...
Poets write poetry because they must. Well, of course if they did not write poetry they wouldn't be poets, hence they 'must' write poetry. Yet I believe few write because they seek any such title. Poets write because they are driven from within to do so.
Readers read poetry because they find that it affects them in ways prose usually does not. Speaking with imagery rather than in dry, immediately apprehended statements, poetry communicates in thoughts too complex to adequately express in simple words.
